Expert Garden Design Services in Old Greenwich, CT

What Certified Horticultural Expertise Brings to Garden Design

Garden design is a discipline that sits at the intersection of art and science, and the science component is frequently undervalued by designers who approach it purely as an aesthetic exercise. A garden that looks beautiful in a design rendering but is populated with plants that are incompatible with the actual site conditions will fail within the first two growing seasons regardless of how compelling it appears on paper. Kelly Landscaping's garden design team in Old Greenwich, CT includes certified horticulturists who evaluate site conditions with the same rigor that an agricultural professional would apply, then select plants that are not just visually appropriate but genuinely suited to the specific light, soil, moisture, and temperature conditions present at your property.

Our garden design process in Old Greenwich, CT begins with a site assessment that documents sun and shade patterns throughout the day using timed observation rather than estimation, soil structure and drainage characteristics through both visual assessment and physical testing, existing plants and their health status, irrigation availability and coverage, and the views from interior windows and primary outdoor use areas that frame how the garden will be experienced most frequently. This data informs every plant placement decision in the resulting design, ensuring that the garden not only looks right but performs right in the conditions it will actually inhabit.

Plant selection for Old Greenwich, CT gardens is one of the most consequential decisions in the design process, and one where Kelly Landscaping's regional plant knowledge delivers clear value. We maintain an extensive working knowledge of how specific varieties of perennials, shrubs, ornamental grasses, and annual plants perform in Old Greenwich, CT's climate, soil types, and seasonal conditions. This means we can recommend plants that are proven performers in local conditions rather than selecting based on catalog images alone. We also emphasize combinations that provide layered seasonal interest, with spring bulbs giving way to early summer perennials, midsummer bloomers sustaining color through the hottest period, and fall-interest plants including asters, sedums, and ornamental grasses extending the garden's visual appeal well into autumn.
